Frequently Asked Questions
Where should my child start their journey?
For kids aged 7 to 11 with no prior experience, our Tackers 1 program is the perfect starting point. It is a game-based, non-intimidating introduction to sailing fundamentals where no prior experience is necessary. If you have an older child (ages 12 to 17), our Teens Learn to Sail programs offer a fantastic, social environment where they can learn on double-handed Pacers, windsurfers, and paddleboards.
What happens after I complete a course? What is the next step?
WSC offers a clear, progressive pathway for everyone! Kids who complete Tackers 1, 2, and 3 can move into our Green Fleet (where they typically purchase their first boat and start fun racing) and eventually advance to elite competition in our Youth Academy. Adults who complete the Learn to Sail basic skills course are encouraged to join our Pacer Pathway Program. A supported, social environment designed to build your confidence so you can eventually hit the club racing start line.
Can I book a single lesson instead of committing to a full program term?
For our structured term programs (such as Tackers), we do not allow single-session or ad-hoc bookings, as the classes follow a progressive 8-week curriculum. However, if you are looking for flexible options, we offer private sailing lessons and our School Holiday Adventure Camps can be booked on a flexible, day-by-day basis.
What do I need to bring to the lessons, and is there food available on-site?
We provide all the necessary boats, water sports equipment, life jackets, and sunscreen for your course. You may wish to bring a wetsuit in cold weather. Please note that the club’s canteen is no longer operational, so we highly recommend bringing your own water bottle and snacks for your session.
