Where It All Started
From humble beginnings, racing a handful of boats out of a shed near the local police station, the club took a decisive leap in 1958 by moving into the historic RAAF officers’ canteen at the Rose Bay Flying Boat Base.
Since then, we have evolved into a globally recognised institution, even serving as the premier training base for 23 nations ahead of the Sydney 2000 Olympics.
Now entering our eighth decade, we remain immensely proud of our rich history while continuously modernising our facilities to champion the future of Sydney’s watersports community.
Moved Locations
In December 1958, Woollahra Sailing Club underwent a decisive change. It moved locations from a shed near the Rose Bay Police Station and took up occupancy over the other side of the Bay in the old RAAF officers Canteen Building of the Rose Bay Flying Boat Base.
Construction of a new Clubhouse
In the late 1970s with membership and boat numbers continuing to increase and the proposed redevelopment of Lyne Park, the Club acquired a special lease until 2021 and embarked on the construction of a new Club house and adjoining facilities.
The Current Clubhouse
The current clubhouse was built in the 1980s to reflect the continued success and growth of the club. All the other associated amenities, such as boat racks, have been added in the intervening period. In more recent years the clubhouse has seen significant investment.
2000 Olympics and Today
By the 1990s, the club established itself as a premier destination for national and international regattas, cementing Rose Bay as a legendary hub for competitive youth and senior fleet racing.
Our Location
Rose Bay provides the ultimate multifaceted aquatic arena. Its sheltered, low-velocity waters are perfect for youth ‘Tackers’ and peaceful morning kayak sessions, while the bay’s natural orientation delivers the ideal wind conditions for high-speed dinghy racing and windsurfing. It is a premium coastal sanctuary where you can rig up, launch straight off the extensive ramp, and later relax on the balcony to soak in the ultimate harbour lifestyle.

Our People & Purpose
We have a rich network of Australian Sailing qualified instructors, expert coaches, a strategic Board, and an incredible crew of volunteers.
The club originally came about from a grassroots movement of locals who wanted to formalise their weekend racing and create a supportive hub to innovate and grow the sport.
